General Advice on Training

If you are thinking of training, clarify exactly what you want to do as a result of your study, eg help in the church, be a professional counsellor, work as a psychologist, be employed in a community organisation, etc. The outcome will shape both the level and type of course studied. Do broad research, ring around, study websites, make comparisons. Most importantly, ask a variety of people for their opinions, and talk to course providers on how their courses match up to your personal and long term goals.

From the perspective of CCAA and PACFA, the benchmark standard for professional recognition for counsellors is the PACFA Training Standards. Achieving this makes you eligible for CCAA Graduate Membership and listing on the PACFA and ARCAP Registers.
