As counsellors we all have the gifts of encouragement, mercy and teaching. I pray that through this organisation, we continue in our faith, encouraging one another and building one another up (1Thes 5:11). - Lyndy Burt
Hello everyone!
I would like to take the opportunity to wish you all a happy and prosperous new year. I trust you all had an enjoyable and relaxing Christmas break (over a long time ago now).
We are hoping to have a newsletter ready to go out very soon so this is just a quick note to keep I touch with you and to give advance notice of what will be happening for CCAA in Tasmania this year.
We are thrilled to continue to welcome new members it is exciting to realize that we are a continuing to grow numerically and also with expertise through the various roles and practical experience others bring into our organization it is wonderful to continue to welcome Tabor students as associates and also to our professional development sessions.
While you were on your break the CCAA Tas. committee met up to plan and prepare for this coming year. Last year as you are aware we ran monthly professional development sessions in the evening. We were also able to provide a half day workshop through St Luke’s Innovative resources these workshops are always popular and usually well supported.
This year we plan to hold professional development work shops in March, April, June and a one day training workshop in October.
You will notice the gap in August that is because the committee is planning on holding two networking meetings one in Burnie and the other in Launceston in August and of course we will be holding our AGM at the end of August.
Our one day workshop in October will be conducted by Maureen Ireland. Maureen is President of the Victorian Branch of CCAA. She serves with me on the National committee. Maureen comes with a lot of experience as a professional counselor and educator.
Our first P.D evening of the year is 2nd of March at the Salvation Army citadel in 180 Elisabeth Street Hobart. I trust you have all received a copy of the PD notice via email by now? I will include a notice with this letter.
Our guest speaker is Bill Folkerts who will be conducting a brief seminar on working with grief and loss. Bill is a member of the Tasmanian committee; he works as a social worker at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Bill is currently a lecturer at Tabor College where he takes a class on counselling in grief loss and attachment.
This year our National conference will be held in Melbourne in September. The conference topic is Trauma: Surviving and Care giving. These conferences are held every second year and always provide an opportunity to network, learn, develop and promote counselling in a Christian context. I love attending these conferences I always learn something and I also appreciate meeting and talking to counselors about how they integrate their faith with their practice. I will certainly be attending this one, hopefully we can get a group together to attend together please email me if you plan to or would like to attend.
As always we as a committee intend to keep you informed about other possible P.D. events that our members might like. We are only a small committee and a still growing organization so we like to give members opportunity to gain extra training and P.D. Points with other suitable organizations. We have attached our list of P.D. evenings and some training workshops coming up.
God Bless, Lyndy
